Xavi’s Press conference ahead of the game against Granada. He spoke about the injured players, Fermin Lopez, Lewandowski, Oriol Romeu, Pedri, Balde, Frenkie and Christensen.
The match against Porto in the UEFA Champions League game on Wednesday was Xavi’s 100th game in charge of the club. The game ended 1-0, Barcelona’s eight win across nine games.
Granada are unbeaten in their last three La Liga games (1W, 2D). They had a spectacular second half revival last weekend against Almeria. They were three goals down at the break but managed to overturn the 3 goals deficit to secure a point (3-3). They are currently 19th in the La Liga standings.
Here is what Xavi had to say ahead of the game;
Xavi on Injuries: We have important absences but we are happy with the last game. The match against Granada will be difficult. We have to play the ball well and have possession.
Xavi on Lewandowski: it is disappointing to have Lewy out of the squad due to injury. However Felix and Torres can play, we also have Pau vitor, Guiu and Fermin Lopez.
Xavi on Fermin Lopez: Like I have said before I really like him. He is two footed, likes to shoot outside the box and win many duels. He will surely get minutes.
Xavi on Romeu: He was at everyone’s level with the ball against Porto. I’m very happy to have him in the team. He is a great signing.
Xavi on Pedri: Pedri is the closest one to returning, there are sensations. There will be time after the break. He will try to recover for the next match.
Xavi on Balde: I am very happy with him. He is playing at the highest level. He was one of the best in the last game.
Xavi on Frenkie: De jong is one of the best midfielders in the world. I have always said this. Every Barca player must be mentally strong.
Xavi on Christensen: He is not the first choice to play after Romeu, we have other alternatives, Gundogan and Casado but he is not excluded. He has played there with his national team.
Xavi continues: what we lack in this first part of the season os a bit of calmness. At times it feels like we get lost in the game and lose control.
End of Xavi’s press conference.
