BARCELONA VS REAL MADRID MATCH REVIEW

In a thrilling encounter in the El Classico, the Galaticos came out victorious ending Barcelona 16 games unbeaten streak and handing them their first defeat of the season. Should we say it was as expected? Or things could’ve gone right for Barcelona seeing that they scored an early goal through Ikay Gundogan in the sixth minute of the game when Gundogan pounced on a loose ball from Tchouameni. And he placed a low shot to beat the on rushing goalkeeper Kepa.

Barcelona were solid in defense, attack and in the midfield. They controlled possession of the ball in the first forty-five minutes of the game. Fermin Lopez came so close to scoring the second goal for Barcelona in the afternoon as Gavi pressured Toni Kross into losing the ball, Fermin Lopez placed a shot to beat Kepa but could only find the woodwork.

Barcelona had another chance into the game  as a cross from Araujo found Inigo Martinez in the box and he headed it but could only beat Kepa before finding the woodwork for a rebound. Araujo got on the rebound and fired at goal only for Kepa to stop it from going in. Real Madrid failed to pose any real threat in the first half. Their first strike coming from 25 yards out from Rudiger but failed to hit the target. Real Madrid were outplayed in the first half and were silent too. Although Toni Kross did try his luck from outside the box but to no avail.

A second half substitute in the fifty first minute turned the game around for Carlo Ancelotti sides as he replaced Ferland Mendy with Camavinga. Lewandowski came on to replace Ferran Torres and Toni Kross was replaced by one time Ballon D’Or winner Luka Modrić.

The equalizer came in sixty eight minutes when summer signing Jude Bellingham fired from 15 yards out to beat Ter Stegen. Madrid gained more possession of the ball and dominating the remainder of the game. It looked like it was going to be a draw but Madrid got a surprise goal in the dying minutes of game. When Carvajal made a cross into the box, and Luka Modric could only get a flick touch on it to beat Inigo Martinez before finding the Bellingham who just tap it into the net beating Ter Stegen again.

This defeat leaves Barcelona third in the league table and four points any from first and second place Real Madrid and Girona.

PLAYERS RATING

1. TER STEGEN 6.5/10

It wasn’t a great afternoon for the German international as he made no crucial saves in the game.

2. JOAO CANCELO 6.5/10

Cancelo wasn’t lethal in attack. Didn’t make any dangerous cross into the box fixing his teammates.

3. RONALD ARAUJO 7.5/10

Despite playing out of position, he did his best in holding the defense and keeping Vinicus at bay.

4. CHRISTENSEN 7.4/10

Christensen had a great game playing the defense and stopping several attacks from Madrid.

5. INIGO MARTINEZ 7.5/10

Unfortunately his header hit the crossbar but could’ve gotten on the scoresheet. He was also solid at the defense.

6. ALEJANDRO BALDE 6.8/10

Wasn’t so instrumental in attack going forward but didn’t have a great game either.

7. GAVI 7.6/10

Gavi was everywhere winning and recovering balls back. He was the best player after Gundogan.

8. FERMIN LOPEZ 7/10

Fermin Lopez had a solid first half but got a red spot with the unnecessary yellow card he received early into the game. Got on a ball recovered by Gavi and laid a shot that hit the woodwork.

9. GUNDOGAN 8/10

Scored the only goal for Blaugrana in the six minutes of the game. He was the heart of the midfield controlling the game and orchestrating plays.

10. FERRAN TORRES 6.5/10

Ferran Torres was a shadow of his self. Was barely seen and conceived a yellow card before half time as he stopped a counter attack.

11. JOAO FELIX 7/10

Not a great game, also not a bad game either. He failed to convert his chances and also create chances for his teammates.

12. LEWANDOWSKI 6.4/10

He had no impact in the game despite coming in the sixty first minute of the game.

13. RAPHINHA 7/10

Spammed some dangerous cross in the box and his presence in the game was highly felt by his teammates.

14. LAMINE YAMAL 6.7

He had that flare in attack and always looks like creating chances upfront

15. ORIOL ROMEU 6.4/10

Romeu was bad on the ball and he was pressured too much into losing the ball in dangerous places. It was a disaster watching him play.
