Xavi’s press conference ahead of the game against Athletic Bilbao.

Xavi’s press conference ahead of the game against Athletic Bilbao. He spoke about the team’s sole aim going into the game, the reduction of Nacho’s ban, Araujo, Laporta, Lewandoski and the injuries.

Barcelona drew their last game 2-2 against Osasuna prior to the international break. This result left them three points behind table leaders Real Madrid and a point behind Catalan side Girona after matchday 9. Barca remain the only team in the Spanish top division yet to lose a game this campaign, recording six wins and three draws.

Athletic Bilbao on the other hand, will be heading into this game with enough confidence after a 3-0 victory over Almeria. A win against Bilbao will reduce the point gap between Real Madrid and Barcelona to just a point.

Here is what Xavi had to say ahead of the game;

Xavi on the team’s aim for the game: We have to win, although it will be against a difficult side. But in our home ground, we are doing well and feel more comfortable.

Xavi on Nacho’s ban reduction: The reduction is a bit surprising. Last year Lewandoski was suspend for three games, we asked if it could be reduced and we were not even listened to.

Xavi on Lewandoski: He is a great leader and always moves forward, he wants to play and it hurt less every day. He has a very good feeling.

Xavi on injuries: We consider it a challenge, we go step by step. There are injuries to three important players due to bad luck.

Xavi contines: Araujo, Balde, Yamal and Gundogan are all ready for the game against Bilbao.

The player’s feeling tells them when to return, we will not put pressure on anyone and the player’s feeling will be the deciding factor for the return of all the injured players.

Xavi on Laporta: We have spoken to each other and he is calm. He is like that, courageous and positive, I am with him 100%

Xavi continues: We talk about too many non sporting activities when Barça is doing well. In my time, we were accused of doping. Thai is sociological Madridism.

End of Xavi’s press conference.
